The Pea Straw Man – Mick Adams

Located in the small farming community of Kukerin in the southern wheatbelt, approximately 260kms East of Bunbury and 300kms South East of Armadale. We have been in the business of providing small square bales of pea straw for garden mulch since 2009. We sell over 20,000 bales per year mostly to retail outlets, plus we do private deliveries in the South West and we are monthly at the Boyanup Farmers Market and annually at the Nannup market.

We are a small business consisting of Mick (the pea straw man) and Alex (the pea straw wife). Mick does all the labour, production and delivery. Alex is the administration lady, cook and cleaner.

The business began for us at the Boyanup Farmers Market in 2009 where we first sold a few bales of pea straw and we have gone from strength to strength over the years.

We are not farmers ourselves. We work with local farmers who grow peas as part of their cropping program. Farmers who grow peas do so as a rotational crop to improve their soil as peas are a nitrogen fixing plant. Pea straw is the product left over when the pea crop has been harvested. After harvest we rake, bale and store enough straw ready for sale all year round.

Mick drives a 6 tonne truck and is sometimes towing a trailer. Therefore please bear in mind the accessibility of your property when placing an order; an easy delivery to front driveway is preferred.
